OUR STORY
My passion for cattle started at an early age growing up on the family farm outside Lamar Missouri. A cow-calf operation that maintained about 150 head annually. My parents still live there today while Dad continues to oversee the field operations of Hat Creek.
I was so blessed to have spent my childhood on the farm learning the ropes from my dad, Jerry. Whether it was mending a water gap in the summertime heat or carrying a newborn calf to shelter during a winter storm, I grew to love every aspect of the farm life.
During my college career it was the Johnson’s who provided my buddy Jon and me with an opportunity few are ever granted. It was on their ranch where I gained firsthand experience with building and managing a beef cattle operation.
We were exposed to it all, too. Everything from implementing grazing programs, constructing countless miles of fencing, fabricating multiple corrals and improving overall herd health and production. All things I still use on the Hat Creek ranch today.
After college I received a call from Dad asking if I would be interested in purchasing a small group of cattle from a neighbor. After a lot of thought, I was soon the proud new owner of 17 Texas Longhorn cattle. Over the next few years my small herd continued to increase in numbers. Today, Hat Creek Cattle Co. is a leading producer of Longhorn beef in the region.
We strive to raise the most flavorful, tender and healthiest beef available anywhere. In fact, our customers say they don’t even need to drain grease after cooking because of the natural leanness.
